Hi all,

Its been a few days, so thought I'd write an update.

Friday was wonderful.  I was invited by the neighborhood moms (Fred calls
them the M&M's (Mormon Moms)) to go hiking. I really like them. They are
outdoors all the time and very involved in winter sports and kids
activities. Most of them have kids just about to leave the nest and then a
few that are still in grade school and every Friday morning they get
together to hike and eat lunch. Today we went up to Stewart Falls where
Robert Redford filmed 'Jeremiah Johnson'. We hiked 4 miles round trip,
then we ate lunch at Sundance resort. One of the women is married to a
former Olympic Skier, Doug Greer, and she and he build custom homes up at
the ski resorts. She encouraged me to get a job at the resort for the
winter for the fun of it and look for a more serious job in the Spring!  I
need to get my resume put together and head up to Alta and Snowbird. She
said I could be on the radio team since I worked for Motorola :-)  There
are some photos in the Utah-Misc folder of our hike and lunch. I also got
to surprise Kelli, the hostess at Sundance who befriended us last year
when we were there. We have kept up with her via email and she has become
a friend. She kept telling us she would drop by soon to see us but hadn't
found the time. Kelli treated our table to a pork quesadilla and we
ordered salads (trying to be good as we just finished a nice hike). My new
laundry room floor was layed on Friday as well. Pics in the same folder.

Saturday was rainy here but Fred got invited to hike with one our handyman
guys, Rob, and they attempted Mt. Olympus (9026 ft), a 4200 ft elevation
gain. Fred almost made the summit but decided to turn back at the last as
the last 200 ft is rock and boulders and he was afraid on his shaky,
flat-lander legs he would have trouble on the descent. But he got some
awesome pictures. Those are in the 'Fred hikes Mt. Olympus' folder. He was
gone about 5 hours and was exhausted and ravenous when he returned.

Sunday, we worked on getting my desk set up so I don't have to work in the
kitchen and I got a new flatscreen monitor which is great. We also decided
to take the dogs to Dog Lake which is supposed to be the best place for
dogs to swim and hike. We envisioned a easy hike into a meadow with a lake
at the end. Ha!  Turned out to be a very hardy hike up about to 8740 ft
(1000 ft elevation gain). We got out of the car at the trailhead and
realized it was VERY cold there.  But once we began the ascent we warmed
up fast. We caught a snowstorm up by the lake but it cleared quickly and
we had a nice sunny place for the dogs to play.  The whole hike took about
2.5 hours (and we thought it was going to be a 45 min walk!) but we
thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great to get the exercise. Pictures are
in the 'Dog Lake' folder at http://community.webshots.com/user/fredschub

I decided that before the washer and dryer are moved back into the laundry
room, I'd give it a new coat of paint. I chose a grey/green color and will
have white moldings put in place of the brown. As soon as its finished I
will post a pic. I spent last night painting, since the handyguys were due
this morning. They never showed and I got a call about 11 letting me know
Jason broke his foot and wouldn't be by til tomorrow. The laundry is
piling up!

Tonight I'm going to hang out with Lacy, eat dinner and get some much
needed advice on how to set up the living room. Its such a weird room with
2 focal points (fireplace and tv/cutout wall). I am thinking maybe I need
to divide it up into two sitting areas. We'll see. Also gotta get a
woman's opinion on the guestroom paint and comforter set.
